Alexander Ovechkin is fast emerging as one of the finest talents in the NHL. The Washington Capitals used their first pick as the 1st overall pick in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft to select Ovechkin and he has more than rewarded their confidence in him. As a rookie in 2006, the Russian left-winger became only the second ever rookie to score 50 goals and tally 100 or more points in a season, and ultimately finished his rookie season with 52 goals and 106 total points, being awarded the Calder Memorial Trophy as the Rookie of the Year. Ovechkin has proven to be one of the most dominate goal scorers in the game and 2009 marked his 2nd consecutive season winning the Heart Trophy as the NHL's Most Valuable Player. In 2009, he also won the Lester Pearson Award as the league's most outstanding player. Alexander has also been named to the NHL First All-Star Team in each of his first 4 NHL seasons, 2006-2009. The Sporting New has named him the NHL Player of the Year in 2008 and 2009, and as the NHL's goal scoring leader in 2008 and 2009, he won the Maurice "Rocket" Richard Trophy both years. In 2008, Alexander also won the Art Ross Trophy.
